SmartWheels® will use technology and interventions to help seniors maintain or increase their level of physical function and mobility. SmartWheels® has two components:  Driving to include both driver assessment and rehabilitation, and physical function with a focus on balance and gait.
SmartWheels® researchers are working to maintain the ability to drive safely and rehabilitate those who have temporarily lost that ability due to health issues. This SeniorSMART® team is already a national leader in developing state-of-the-art drive-simulation centers to evaluate and rehabilitate older drivers.  Experts from the center will also work with automobile manufacturers to create safer vehicles for older adults.
